So I was wondering if there will be different subject headings/sections to the forum or will it be just one long list of posts?

Thomas Lester > Good question. I posted about how a vBulletin type forum would be better... however, I think if they could properly divide this into categories and make it easy to subscribe to and get responses via e-mail, that would be better.

Thomas Lester > Odd... I just hit the subscribe button and it came back with "Unsubscribe Successful". So... what happens when I subscribe? Do I get instant e-mails when there is a response? Daily? Weekly? Can I configure that?

Thomas Lester > Looks like "Community Forum" is the category. "Feature Requests" and "ShootQ Success Stories" seem to be the only other categories.

Ron Priest > Hey Thomas, I received an email with the content of your last post, so I didn't even have to check the forum to see your comments. That's cool. Also, when I clicked on the title of the post (which is a link back to this thread inside my email) I didn't have Safari open, nor do I have to be logged into ShootQ to be taken to the thread. So that's a nice improvement over the last software ShootQ was using.

Ron Priest > I see right off the bat though, there doesn't appear to be anyway to edit your past comments, so... apparently you have to get it right the first time, there is no "going back" to fix a spelling error or anything.

Justin Lund > Hi Ron and Thomas,
Congratulations on being among the first posters in the new forum!
Currently the forum is setup with a main category of Q-Lounge with sub-categories of Community Forum, Feature Requests, and ShootQ Success Stories. We have a lot more flexibility compared to the old system and can create additional sub-categories. I see this as an area that we can improve upon as we use the new system more and more. I'm always open to suggestions and have no problems making changes to better serve you.

Great then! I would suggest then before you start to get a bunch of unrelated posts all in the same thread, that you organize the forum into different categories to help keep some order. I haven't looked yet, but is there a way we can search for specific words, phrases, or topics with this software?
Also, if you can fix it to allow people to edit their previous comments/posts that would be nice. That's an option you see in most forum software. I often don't notice a misspelled word, or grammar error until after I've submitted a post and re-read it, not matter how many times I read it before I initially post it.

Ron Priest > Oops, my bad. I see the LARGE search filed right at the top, sorry.
-
Mark Adams > @Ron, yep, we were hoping that big search field would help folks out. :)
If you're on the home page and search for something, it searches everything - the Official ShootQ support knowledgebase, the forums, all categories, everything. If, for example, you just click into the Community Forum, and search from there, then it will only search the Community Forum. But if you use the smaller Search bar in the upper right corner (which is on every page) then that always searches everything.
As for editing capabilities, that's not an option at the moment. ZenDesk, has indicated that editing capabilities on tickets is not going to happen (in order to keep the audit trail in tact for issues) but that it might be a possibility for editing capability on forum posts. But the tricky thing is that we (ShootQ staff) can move (if necessary) tickets to the forum and forum posts to tickets as needed to better serve our users. So until they figure that out, we need to proofread our posts before clicking Submit.
As for categories in the forum, we'd be open to any specific suggestions y'all have :) Did y'all like the categories we had before? Do you want more or something different? Here's what we had before: Announcements, What Were You Doing?, ShootQ Grant, ShootQ Sucks, Help, Qclub Connection and Lounge.

Mark Adams > Thomas, the way these forums are setup is that if you post on a forum, you are automatically subscribed to updates. So no need to subscribe. If you don't want to get any updates, then you can unsubscribe. And an easy unsubscribe link is included in every email you'll get when somebody comments on a forum post you've subscribed to.

Ron Priest > Hi Justin
I mistakenly posted this same message in the thread talking about system crashes, would you please be so kind as to remove it from that thread? Thanks.
How about creating a community forum/category specifically for videographers? That would be awesome since we sometimes have career specific items of interests that we may like to share or inquire how other videographers are using ShootQ
