Last night, I had a client accept a proposal and she attempted to make a CC payment but she got an error then the got a duplicate entry message (or something like that) Is it even possible for a client to make a payment before I sign the contract?

Blue Olive > I have this question as well. I recently had a portrait client call and pay their retainer over the phone (manually) before they'd completed signing the contract online, but I couldn't apply the payment until they'd signed the contract...

Mark Adams > @Ron, yes, the system is designed so that the client should make a payment right after signing the contract (It's the next step in the online booking process). I encourage photographers as a best business practice to not countersign their contract until they've received payment.
If your client is getting an error, it'd be helpful if you can find out what that error is and then file a ticket so that our development team can look into the specifics. Please let us know which shoot / client / invoice.
@Blue Olive, the way ShootQ works, if you've sent the client an Online Booking proposal, then yes, they need to sign the contract before you can pay the invoice through ShootQ. But if you don't want them to have to sign a contract, then you should choose the "Book Manually" option instead of "Book Online."
Hope this helps!

Blue Olive > Thanks, Mark...
I'm talking about a situation where I need them to sign the contract but they've called to pay the retainer before they've signed the contract. I'm obviously going to take payment and not tell them to go sign and then call back, but then I can't record the payment until after they've gone in.
It's not a major thing and the workaround is just to make a note to go back in and record the payment, but it's not an unheardof scenario where they're doing things in reverse order

Ral Nicanor > Hey Miranda, We've had that situation a lot - Mark's suggestion of Booking Manually (instead of Online) is the best way to go.

Brian Stevens > I agree with the client not being able to make the payment until the contract is signed.
However, I think we should be able to add payments before the contract is signed. Example...We conduct an in-person consultation. Client books and pays either part or all of the session that night. We send out the contract/invoice, but have to tell them the payment they made will be credited once they sign the contract. We can't credit it ahead of time and it causes confusion for our clients.

maria mrasek > I am feeling the same way as Jeremy, I have a portrait contract for $5000 but they have paid $1550 already. My client does not want to sign a contract saying she owes $5000 when she doesn't, it makes her un-easy and since she is a Lawyer it goes against everything she is taught. It seems unprofessional to ask her to "trust" me and sign it anyway. I would love a feature where we can send the proposal with added payments... actually that just makes sense to me.

Brian Stevens > FYI...this feature was made available in the latest ShootQ update. Thanks for listening!
