Calendar - Adding non-shoot related events

suggested this on January 25, 2011 05:55

Currently the only way to add something to the ShootQ calendar is for it to be part of a shoot.  We really need the ability to add non-shoot related items to the calendar.  Team meetings, studio events, etc.

Currently we have to add them to a separate calendar (google) and share the event with everyone.  Would really like to have this in ShootQ!

I would really appreciate ShootQ looking into this issue.
I also have a google calendar to share with everyone and would rather just have ShootQ.

Agreed. That way I would know instantly with a lead if I had something else going on that day (bridal show, etc) that wasn't associated with a shoot. Now I have to create a "dummy" lead to attach these items to.

Seriously.  I cannot agree more.  We have to maintain an iCal for this very reason.  Is there any plan to integrate this request??

Hmmm....I'm really curious why you would want this. Do you really want to use ShootQ as a calendaring program? Why not use iCal or Google Calendar?

ShootQ has the obvious need to handle time-related events (shoots, appointments about shoots, etc.) but everything is tied to a shoot. That stuff gets put onto a calendar feed and sent to your favorite calendar software so it shows up on your master calendar, where you would see everything.

If you're wanting to have a staff meeting, why not just put that on a staff calendar in iCal or Google Cal and share that feed with each other?

I'm not sure I'm seeing the use case for this one. Convince me!

Andrew, i'd love it because of the fun little feature shootq had when it notifies you of potential conflicts. When I click into a lead, shootq tells me when I have something else scheduled, so I don't write back and tell the client I'm available. Yes, I can go back and look at my master calendar, but it seems like an extraneous step, and if shootq were to just tell me "hey you idiot, you have a bridal show scheduled that day" it would make my life just that much easier. Also, if you don't want us to use shootq as a calendaring program, why do you integrate your own calendar into it so much :) I would just love the "conflicts" feature work with non shoot events, because as photographers, shooting isn't our only time conflict.

Agree with Scott

Because we could relax knowing there is no possibility of double-booking a time slot. And yes, integrating calendars is a simple thing to do these days, but who wants to keep track of 2 calendars anyway? Basically, there would be no chance for error this way. Communication is huge.

Yes, but your calendar feeds from iCal or Google Calendar show up in ShootQ's calendar when you are booking an appointment associated with a shoot. Have you linked your calendar feeds to ShootQ?

We have a staff of 4 and it would be super helpful if the administrator could schedule onto the master calendar things like meetings and events unassociated with a specific shoot and/or client. This is a major drawback in my opinion.

This seems like a no brainer feature. I am surprised we should "have to convince you"   I use brownbookit, and have stayed with it because of this. I can't link brownbookit into shootq. I would abandon Brownbookit for ShootQ entirely. I don't always need to have a job attached. ANNOYING.
